I need some sps advise

So who can tell me why I see so much polyp extensions on sps in certain tanks and some tanks have no polyps but still growing? New into these stick world so enlighten me with your knowledge please

Are all tanks plumbed together? Do they Share the same lighting and water parameter that includes nutrient levels? Is the flow the same? How about fish? Some fish can nip polyps.

Don't worry about polyp extension as it comes and goes. Look for growth and color.

It is two separate tanks. Started to google around and I think the tank that doesn’t have polyp extensions have a flame angel in it. I’m thinking it’s the angel. Going to attempt to remove the angel and see what happens.

I had a flame angel...once. Would peck at every single coral in my tank.

PE is mostly for gas exchange. It can be both a negative and positive sign. I would not worry about PE during the day. If your acros have no PE at night (when the zoox are not supplying them with gas and they have to exchange with the water), then I might worry a bit.

The angel is probably irritating them... no big deal as long as it is not tearing off chunks of flesh. A lot of people live with dwarf angelfish picking at their acropora.

Lol... I had a flame in my tank for 6 months with no problem...one day I noticed polyp extension didn’t look normal. I was assuming my levels were off, but other Sps corals had polyps...checked back in a few hours and notice the flame angel picking at random Sps corals that had no polyp extension. Anyways... took three days to catch and now waiting to see if things are back to normal. It’s been two days and polyps are not back but seems to be getting better...
