Long story = short story = They tell me I did not start speaking until I was almost 4 years old. Never uttered a word. Tehn, when I did start speaking, the voice I have now is the voice I had then. Supposedly, they made tape to tape recordings. It got me into much trouble in school because I talked a lot during class. I never could figure out how they always knew it was me who was talking. I was told, very regularly and repeatedly, not to sing during any type of singing event because I threw all the other kids off. Also, when I began speaking, I spoke in complete and full sentences. I was also known for using very "colorful" words in normal conversation. Not sure where I picked up the colorful language but I am a regular user.

I enjoyed this. Perhaps it was something about waiting to speak until you could join the conversation. My oldest daughter Katie, for example, never crawled. She went right to walking (with months of forehead bruises to prove it). We assumed she was just trying to be like us.

When I first started treating Amish patients I would refer to my kids and finally one day an Amish family I had gotten particularly close with asked me why I had so many goats and why I named them all? Perplexed I looked at him inquisitively. He then informed me that all this time when I mentioned kids they thought goats because they call their offspring “children” not kids. Cultural awareness 101.
They do love my reef though most have never seen the ocean so it’s their slice to enjoy.

So true. Although they did use the family goats to help feed the triplets I delivered a few years back. Mom didn’t have enough of her own milk. Brought a wet nurse in from Minnesota Amish and also use one of the goats... to milk and bottle feed for those of you thinking the goat was nursing the baby :/
