Anyone uses one of these? I was going to DIY something but I also kinda need a acclimation box as well. So i' wondering two things.

Are the suction cups any good? I've always found suction cups suck but it a not good way.

Would 6x6x8 be big enough to aclimate a small yellow tang for a couple days? Maybe around 1.5" or less? Should I buy the larger trap? I think its 8x8x10. The only fish I have left to add is a yellow tang, a wrasse or two, and maybe a small shoal of anthias.

I agree suction cups suck. I've glued ceramic magnets on the inside, in the past ( used neodymium magnets on the outside).
I've seen acclimation boxes with brackets that hold over the top rim.
As far as size, I would get the bigger one. Gives you more options down the road.

I have this and it works well, but also still has suction cups.

Yea I think I'll get the bigger one. I wish someone made this style with the magnet off the shelf but I'm sure it's a sticker sock thing. $70 for a small acrylic box is bad enough a it is. Do you know whet you got reef safe magnets?

This is essentially the same thing as the ice cap one. Glad to know it works well

ceramic magnets are reef safe.
I see them at lowes or home depot.
I believe K&J Magnets has plastic incased magnets.
Problem with using ceramic magnets is they are generally pretty weak when it comes to holding power through 1/2" or so of glass ( plus the thickness of the box), so a pretty strong outside magnet is needed.

I have the ice cap and use Jebao or Tunze magnets. Works well.

I'll check these out!

Oh, I'm kinda surprised the jebao back magnets reef safe. I never would have thought to stick them in the water. I have one spare from my spare powerhead i swap out when my other wave makers dirty

I run a jebao ow-40 and its attatched to a sea sweep the same way. Tunze magnets are much stronger and what I normaly use.

Well I also happen to have a pair of the tunze ecochic refugium lights sitting in a shelf. Might have to rob the magnets for a bit!

You will need a strong magnet or silicone the suction cup to the magnet and use it that way.

@X-37B I'm just getting around to ordering the ice cap trap. Do you think it has enough waterless through it to double as a isolation chamber

Yes it is big enough for an isolation chamber.

Auto correct kind of messed with me on that. The holes look small in the pictures i see online. Do you think it has enough water flow through it so as to keep a fish from suffocating in it while using it as a isolation chamber?
