Just looking for some opinions on The IceCap PRO series of algae turf scrubbers. If you had space in your sump, would you go for internal, external or HOB?
I'm thinking about getting a turf algae scrubber but even the smallest models are going to be almost more than my budget, so I'm not looking for recommendations to buy the SURF or Pax Bellum and the like. I could do a DIY, but I'd prefer something a bit more polished than I'd pull off.
Anyone had issues with the more recent versions of the IceCap HOB leaking or reasons to pay the substantial difference between HOB and internal models?
Thanks in advance!

I did make one previously with some leftover plumbing parts but not with an enclosure. I wasn't terribly happy with the way it looked or worked. Mostly just me being picky, I suppose. It's a good suggestion to consider.

I have been happy with my Ice Cap Pro scrubber (medium size, in sump version, 6 months in service). It grows algae better than the Santa Monica "Rain" I had on my old tank, and it is much easier to clean the screen. I was able to get it for $287.99 on black friday.

An algae scrubber, regardless of brand, is the sort of item I would always prefer to have in sump if possible. I feel like having it out of sump would just be taunting the leak gods and challenging them to ruin my day.

Haha! I agree. It is over $100 difference in price between the small HOB and internal that tempted me to take the risk.
