I have a one year old IM tank. It’s an AIO. I’ve run 3 ICP tests so far. Zinc was at normal levels back in Jan and March (about 1.5 micro liters). But suddenly in August it jumped to 55.
I’ve been tearing out my hair trying to sort this. None of the equipment is old and it all looks good.

But in April, I’d added an IM Aquashield uv sterilizer. It does a great job keeping the water clear and the glass clean. I’m happy with the performance. But I lifted it out to look at it today and there was a silvery metallic label on it, ready to fall off. I removed it. Could it have been the Zn source? It’s very “foil like.”

I’m not sure what they make them from, but yes it is possible. Most commonly, aluminum is used.

Be sure to check for any metal fittings or hose clamps.

Is zinc a common component in silvery foil?

Thanks for the note to check other fittings; I’m working on it!

I don’t think it’s common, but it only takes one user.
