Two extra bits of stuff on a Zoa rock I just got. There's the purple patch on top - a sponge maybe? And there's the white (slightly pink) patch to the right and lower in the second picture, which appears to have polyps. Knowing the zoa type/name would be nice as well.

Two views pictured below.

I would keep a good eye on that, my experience with zoas on rocks sometimes come with unwanted hitchhiker’s, the worst being sea spiders that love zoas, it’s a good idea to dip it before putting it in your tank, just keep a good eye on it every day to be safe.

Too late, it's in the tank. I am watching it anyway - but it's small with not many hiding places.

Be leave me sea spiders and their eggs will find many places in that rock to hide, dip it now if you can.

Never seen one - ever. I have been keeping marine tanks since the 70s. Maybe they don't live around here. I must be lucky

Same here I started Freshwater in the 60's, never found a Saltwater store in the 70's, started seeing them in the late, 80's, I had many saltwater tanks over the years, and I really like zoas, but so do sea spiders, they love the zoa Mucus, I treated them Many times, be leave they are the worst, it's best to be safe then sorry.

Wouldn't the store I bought it from, be having troubles with them? This piece has been sitting in the store for over a month.

The Big problem is the Eggs, those dam eggs could take up 6 months to hatch, in the mean time the zoas will be doing great, then one day all hell will brake lose once they Hatch and Grow.

I was just reading that the males carry the eggs on them.
