If you're like me and often look for a specific fish, I wanted to share something I built for myself (not available to public at this time).

I've been trying to find some rarer fish that only show up once or twice a year. Ordering through stores hasn't worked that great, so I decided to come up with my own solution.

I made a small app that helps me track all new fish in stock (Canada only, shipping nationwide). I've got around 20 stores in the database now, and new listings are checked every few hours. It also tracks price history and I can save my search results so it's easy to see if any of the fish I'm looking for are back in stock :)

Very neat.
For me, I wonder what tools or programs or(?) stuff did you use to put this output generating machine together?

I have often lemented that Google search could supply fast answers for published resources when it was first launched but now it's a paywall extortionist platform, as far as I can see. I am glad you are able to gather information using the web, thanks for sharing!

Old, worn out web casualty. 🤠

Thanks! It's just a simple React app with a Nodejs scraper that checks all the store websites every few hours and saves what's in stock to a database.

For some stores I use Shopify's API directly (I used to work as a dev in e-commerce, so it came handy), but a bunch of them have bot protection, so I have to use Playwright to scrape those instead.

Very cool......I would like something like that to track out of stock reef equipment being sold at multiple vendors/websites.
