My wife is planning to help me with my new tank for Father’s Day. I’m planning to order the Innovative Marine INT 200 next week. I’ve put together a tentative list for equipment and stocking. I plan to do a full reef tank but I’m not sure whether to do a mixed reef or full SPS ( new adventure for me). I’d love to hear your thoughts on stocking and equipment.

I'd add some type of controller. I have an apex on mine and it's made things a lot easier for me. My favorite automation I've done is automatic water changes. When I'm on vacation I can feed my tank too.

I was definitely considering an Apex. Do you think I need this at startup or should add it when the tank is more established? Any thoughts on the fish stocking?

Yeah here are my thoughts. I don’t know too much about wrasses since I don’t keep them and haven’t really had too many in the 15 years I’ve been in the hobby. I’d add all of the tangs and foxface in at the same time to lessen aggression. They’ll still have their little fights at first.

-Lyretail Anthias (5) - feed a lot
-Diamond Goby - probably not a good choice in the beginning since there’s nothing for it to eat in the sand. Might be ok if it eats frozen or pellets.

Thanks for the insight. I’m the least sold on the Wrasses. I just felt like I need a few more fish in there. Is there anything you would suggest as an alternative?

If you like big schools I have 7 blue chromis in my 200 and they’re over 10 years old. They bicker here and there when they’re trying to spawn but keep them fed and they’ll be fine.

Did you start with 7 or a larger group? I see a lot of posts that say I started with “x” number of Chromis and they picked each other off until I had “y” number left.

I think I had 10 but my original group was 7.
