Are you doing anything to remove the cyano? Otherwise, every time it dies those nutrients are going back into the sand bed, allowing it to grow again in the future. Chemical solutions aren’t always a good answer, but in this case they work so well...I used red slime remover, and then once the cyano died i vacuumed the sand and did a big water change. It didn’t come back, and my corals/fish/inverts were fine.
I have regularly vacuumed the cyano into a filter sock in the sump and removing that. Other than that I have not performed any WC outside of what is automatically changed.
