In my Nuvo 24g i have on one side polyester fiber (polyfilter of some sort), Carbon, Lots of life rock rubble, return in that order. On the right side i have a "fuge" which is just cheato and a grow light, then skimmber, heater then to return.

I really enjoy IM tanks. Here are what I've run in my 3.

When I had my IM20 up I had (from left to right) filter sock, heater, ATO, skimmer, filter sock. Both socks had chemipure blue. This was my first tank so I wasn't sure what I was doing.

My IM40 I wanted to make more of a fuge to have a mandarin someday so I went (left to right) rubble rock, rubble rock, ATO and heater, skimmer, filter sock with chemipure.

IM10 I have filter sock and heater, rubble rock and will eventually put in an ATO. Back of the IM10 is so small compared to the 40 (duh). I have to leave the pump by itself until I get an ATO. I tried to put the heater and thermometer in the 3rd chamber but if your water evaporates even a little bit it'll start clanking against the pump.

I run chemipure blue with 200 micron filter floss in a caddy in one of the initial return chambers. I run a skimmer in the second chamber on the opposing side.

I have filter socks and they just don't cut it for me. I've read a lot of ppl don't like the filter socks and went to media baskets

My understanding is that is mostly people with earlier generations. IM has improved their socks to the point that most people don't upgrade to baskets.

The socks I tried came attached to a plastic piece. They were a bit hard to wash.

Unless they make it to where you can detach the sock from the plastic I don't plan on using them.

I use the new socks with the plastic and they are very easy to clean. I turn them inside out and run them in the dishwasher with hot water only. Then I put them in the washing machine with hot water and a cap full of bleach. My washing machine has a second rinse option which I use. Done. I have had very clean water with this method.
