what would be easier/cheaper to set up for a catshark and what would be a minimum size space for one im looking at one that would grow to 3 feet 6 inches and maybe would like a few tankmates to go with it and ideas for setup

There are a whole bunch of species under the 'catshark' name, and care requirements vary considerably between them. Western banded catshark (Atelomycterus fasciatus) is one of the smaller, easier to care for shark species. 150 gallons or so, for a minimum tank size.
No, I don't, and haven't, kept sharks... but I did a BUNCH of reading and research on the subject, before finally deciding against setting up a shark tank.
