Inherited live rock

Hi all, so a friend of mine's father is stepping away from the hobby. He gave me a bunch of live rock from his 10+ year old tank. However, it's covered in tons of algae, so I'm planning on nuking most of it before I put it in my tank. I'm wondering however, if I should try to keep some of the less algae-infested rock alive and put it in my tank so I can take advantage of the decade old biome. Any advice would be appreciated!

That rock doesn't look too me in bad shape. Bleach white rocks are not the goal. Was the system running when you got the rocks? I might run it a while(w/ lighting) , test no3/po4, watch to see what lives in it- then make a decision

System was running. So put it in a separate tank and watch for a while is your recommendation? I'm mostly just worried about the algae spreading all over the place.

You'll end up with much,much more algae if you dried the rock out. That rock looks perfectly fine. As for the hitchhikers the bivalve and limpet are good, the asterina starfish, not so much.

Yes, set it up and see how it does is my suggestion. Light it, get some more cuc and then decide. The rocks look decent to me. Can't undo a nuking
