Thanks to Comcast, Home of Xfinity, I have been getting bursts of Internet and phone between hours of no service whatsoever. I work from home via the Internet, and my ADT security system requires a home phone for the service to work completely. I have been struggling to use my 3G on my phone to get by, only to have very limited capabilities. This really sucks and I have received discounts and credit, but what does that do when I rely on the Internet to eat!? Is this a sign the world is ending? Y2comcast? More like CONcast. Xfinity means the opposite of infinite I guess. Any suggestions? I'm not even sure there are any other phone and Internet providers around here...we don't even have a Verizon tower so I'm in extended network wasting massive amounts of data.

you probable live out in the country like me, we have both cable and DSL available to us, the cable is bad, and DSL is worse, we are using cable right now but it does go out pretty often, I have considered trying dishnet since we use dish for our TV viewing but it's a lot more expensive than what we have now....

Plus I don't watch TV since I have so many other hobbies I like better, with the exception of Dexter and a select few other shows. Internet and phone are all I need :/

Older parts of town sometimes have older lines. what is the signal levels at the modem? The signal to noise ratio? does weather seem to effect it? Have they tried rewiring everything from the pole to the modem? how far from the pole or tap is the cable line coming to the house? Tv channels fuzzy? Digital channels? Is there an amp on the line?

oh please dont get me started on ISP providers. I work for an IT company in Cleveland ohio and we have a client opening an office in CALI. They asked us 2 months ago to get internet in their office for next week. Well we call comcast they say sure we can do it no problem. You want a 12 month contact no problem its going to be X amount of dollars a month. The client agrees signs the paper work. Each week we call to make sure we are on schedule well come this monday our clients calls us all ****** off. He tells us "Comcast said we have to sign a 2 year contact and pay $50,000 for construction costs." We call comcast and they act like this is old news. they go yeah this is how it works. So now we are in a rush to find an ISP provider in 2 days to get this project done. Yay fun times!!!

I just had a tech here like last week and replaced the modem and checked it all out. As for the technical stuff I'm clueless and have no idea how to check that stuff.

Weather does affect it, if its sunny it goes out...if it rains it goes out...if its windy or not windy it goes out. If there is a tornado it stays on, at least last time it did.

Most of the wiring here has been replaced, and not very well as far as placement. They have a be cable ran through my yard diagonally from the alley to my neighbors place and it goes right through a tree, so I can't let it get large enough to produce sufficient oxygen.

AT&T vs comcast: GO!

I use to install Charter cable services, which is pretty similiar to comcast. Your noise levels aren't in spec. A few things to have the next tech do to isolate the problem.

Have him do this:
1)Climb the pole or find pedestal to get signal levels straght from the tap.
2) go to the house box and check the signal again going back to the street.
3) check signal going into the modem

If the signal is good at the tap then he should compare it to the other places i listed above.

He could be a good tech and run you a brand new line from the tap to the house and a new line from the modem to the house box to show good customer service as well as replacing the modem.

Sounds to me that the tech there arent very helpful and shouldnt take no more than a few hours to have a brand new cable run to your place.

If its your tap then a boom truck can repair that as squirrels are the devil when it comes to chewing on cable lines. Which then"bleeds" out your signal and cause service problems.

Good luck and hopefully they will get it fix soon

Lumpy cheese particles there's a van in the alley! Must be a whole block thing and they just went at it. Not sure what he's doing but ill go tell him what you guys all recommend and probably irritate him because of it lol...we will see :)

My money is on the tap being messed up if its a multi home issue

That is typical for "commercial" projects. Why Comcast anyway? I wouldn't run an office on a cable modem. I worked for Charter Business Networks when it existed for a while. Used to install Metro E-net and Cisco equipment for installs. All I deal with now is data centers - SANs, firewalls, gateways.

I have the same issues in a new home in a new neighborhood. Also had the same issue in a business complex. After spending endless hours on the phone with techs and customer service and switching companies, I have accepted that I just have to deal with it. Hope you have better luck.
