So I’ve always cycled my tank with a raw shrimp and then added bacteria with some LR from a LFS. Problem is I always get the bad stuff introduced with that as well. No more with that route.

What product is better just for introducing bacteria into the tank. I’m not worried about adding fish quickly as I will wait until Spring for that.

I’ve researched Microbacter 7, Dr Tim’s, Aquaforest Bio S, and Red Sea Reef Mature kit.

Any ideas on which to go without? Is it really necessary? Should I just pick up some algae from Algae barn after the cycle?

I let my tank run for 2 days with dry rock to get the temperature correct and I then added Dr. Tims https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/ammo...E5JpFB3S09g1XVS43v2aCuRyw37AsY5caAnbFEALw_wcB
After letting the tank run with ammonia over night with a reading of 1.5-2ppm ammonia I added Fritz https://www.algaebarn.com/shop/aquarium-supplies/turbostart-live-nitrifying-bacteria/
I had zero ammonia after 1 day from adding Fritz turbo start I then dosed half the recommended dosage of Dr. Tims ammonium chloride and waited another day and
ammonia was zero again.
I then added a pair of clowns and have been running my tank for about 3 months.(i have not added coral cause I had a dino outbreak and it is now on the mend)
Took about 4-5 days and would do it the same if I had to do it all over again.

I forgot about the Fritz turbo. I am thinking I will just let the time cure the ammonia spike since I want to make sure I finish everything before I add fish. But I will buy some of the Fritz turbo and add that.

Thanks

Or don’t add anything. Get a piece of live rock from a local reefer and some a big ball of cheato. Sit back and let it do its thing

No thanks, I have always did this in the past and always somehow get aiptasia, or majanos or some other pest. Clean and fresh this time

I used fritz 900 for my new build. It's only 35 gallon total. I took it to 3ppm before I added bacteria w/ Tim's ammonium chloride drops for the source. A day & 1/2 to get to zero ammonia. Dosed to 2ppm the next 3 days to make sure, zero in 24hrs all times. A fish & shrimp in 2 weeks wet. I've got a few gha strings that are white showing up now. The bacterial bloom has cleared, crystal clear water 3rd week. No skimmer, just letting it eat.

Another one is ATM Colony which I have used on 2 occasions and it works as advertised

You can pretty much add fish straight away infact you need to for it to work correctly
