Is it me or do visitors only notice cheap, "lame" fish?

[4FordFamily]

LOL It's the matted filefish in my tank that people always seem to notice first...not the wrasses...not the tangs...the filefish. "Woah! He looks prehistoric!"

When I had one I had similar experience!

[Keepswiming]

My mom said "how come you don't have any white corals like we always see at the stores?" Me, "mom those are bleach which means they are dead!" Mom, "oh but they are pretty!" ****!

[4FordFamily]

Lol that's just crazy :D

Anyone get the "Where's the sunken boat" question? Drives me nuts!!!

LOL! I had someone ask me if they could buy me a SpongeBob decoration (they wanted to buy me a pineapple house to put in my reef). I kindly declined.

I've also had to explain the difference between my powder blues and dory... My yellow belly hippo I just accept. No one cares that it has a yellow belly and is "more rare"

Just tell people along with it being yellow-bellied it is also lilly-livered. Then you can name it Yosemite Sam's worst nightmare.

That's why we tend to have a group of friends who share the same hobby and who appreciate what we struggled most to get!!!
Same as why we tend to spend more time on forums sharing our successes!

Very true. Nobody cares more about my moorish idol, Red Sea regal angel, Achilles tang, 5 species of leopard wrasse, group of powder blue, brown and hybrid tangs than my 20 dollar fish! I feel like i choose my fish for appearance not just rarity- which is why I stay away from black tangs lol talk about a fish people wouldn't appreciate much

'It's Nemo!!' and 'Wow that's pretty (pointing at Aiptasia)' is normally what I get...

I get that with dory (although mine is a yellow belly but no one appreciates that) and moorish idol.

No one cares about bubbles!! (Yellow tang) but that's probably because of how common they are

I've had ppl say what's that pretty red stuff ( cyano)

I've gotten that too. I always hear about how ugly my quarantine tank is full of PVC pipe...

I get lots of compliments on my GHA.
Or "what's that spider doing in your tank?" ( Lightfooted Sally)
Or "oooh, look at all the cute little crabs."
And my favorite: "NEMO!"

[Oscaror]

My friend who doesn't know anything about the hobby pointed at something and said "I like that one"
You know what he pointed at?
A RARE CHALICE, I WIN!!!

[Coraloliseffect]

Yes that's nemo and marlin. But marlin is turning into nemos mom.
