So ive found one of my hermits outside its shell this morning. It doesn't look like a normal molt. It's missing limbs which are seemingly scattered across the tank and doesn't seem to be able to move. All other tank inhabitants seem absolutely fine, including the other hermits. There's plenty of spare/various size shells and water chemistry is all normal. Im guessing its been attacked, maybe mid molt.

Its just molting or got very stressed during its molt, and whenever this happens, they actually pull their own legs off. Happened to 3 of my hermits.

Do they usually survive? It's hardly moved at all today.

Well, whenever my hermits pulled their legs off, they died. But there are cases where this has happened before with others and theirs did survive. I would say there is a 10% chance he will make it. But, if he has moved, then this is probably not going to happen, and he should just be molting. But usually saltwater hermit molts take a day.
