Is my return pump water level too low?

Hey guys, I just set up my Red Sea max nano g2 peninsula and am wondering if my return pump water level is too low. It was previously too high now I think it’s too low. Do I need to just fill the return pump compartment up?
the water is trickling into the sock perfectly so that’s why I am wondering if I just need to fill the compartment or should I just add more water entirely? Obviously if I add the ATO box, the water level is too low and will all be dumped into the aquarium.

I’m sorry, I can’t exactly see it, but from experience, getting the water line 3-4in above the return pump usually works the best for me.

The water line is below the black charcoal. It’s definitely too low I’m just not sure how to raise it, I guess I would just need to add more volume to the entire tank?

I just removed water from the entire system, about 1.5 gallons and let it run. The return pump was sucking up some air so I would turn it off, add some water and turn it back on till it ran fine.

I'm not familiar with that set up, but the return chamber should be plenty full enough of water that the return pump is not sucking air.

If you add an ATO, you'll want the sensor in the return pump chamber so it monitors the level you want to keep it at, and add water when it gets low....Highly recommended.
