I was at my local lfs and ran across a mushroom they are calling a bubble mushroom. Could this be a bounce mushroom.

I'll be honest here and others won't agree but it's true. A "bounce" mushroom is simply a species of mushroom in the Genus Rhodactis that has developed "bubbles". Honestly I personally have no idea what causes it and neither does anyone else. But technically you could call that a bounce, how much are they selling it for?

They are selling it for $99.00 under the name bubble mushroom. I looked at pictures of bubble mushrooms and could not find anything that looked like it.

I heard from my LFS that the bubbles are caused by LED lighting which apparently causes mutations in some rhodis/shrooms. Interesting thought.

A good thought, I've heard it could be caused by high UV but there's nothing concrete on the subject. I have rhodactis under LED, T5 and halide systems and all have small bubbles but nothing big, didn't have them when they were young so it's a confusing thing.

It will be interesting how they progress in my tank. I plan on picking up a few rhodactics and see if they get any bubbles. Either way, its a nice find for me.

Nice score! Those look great even under the white lighting.
