I'm switching over to carbon for the first time from CPE. I couldn't find any discussion on this brand or product on here, but was wondering if there is any reason to NOT try this? It got good reviews on amazon; and supposedly "Bitumonous" carbon is the way to go right?

I don't know anything about that product, but IMO, cheaping out on GAC is not a good plan. Too much risk of things like HLLE in tangs.

I'd recommend a premium acid washed GAC such as ROX 0.8.

Is this considered cheap? It's $25 for a quarter pound and it says its been thoroughly washed to minimize dust.

Is there anything you can recommend on Amazon? I guess I can return this one and get the BRS one if there are no other decent options

I do not know if it is "cheap" or not.

if it isn't inexpensive relative to a premium product like ROX 0.8, then, IMO, there's no reason to not elect ROX 0.8.

Rox 0.8 or nothing.
You use less and I do not even rinse it.
Load your reactor and go.
I put it a small bag for my 45 rag system.
I change both every 3 weeks.
What is ROX 0.8? I can't even find it with a google search, it just takes me straight to BRS and Aquamaxx's products.

I don't have a reactor, just an HOB filter. That should befine to be a little back there right?

They sell Aquamaxx rox 0.8 on Amazon. Bulk Reef sells there own branded product on their website. Both are good carbons. Seachem Matrix carbon is also a good, acid washed product that they sell on Amazon.

BRS sell it
Go to their site and search.
You can get a fine mesh bag to put it in.
Here is mine on my frag system.
I pulled it out so you can see it better.
I change it every 3 weeks.
Just drop in in your HOB.
