Live rock and corals are from a tank transfer and my tank is roughly 2 months old. I went from a 13 gallon to a 25 gallon tank and use all my existing rocks and corals. The old tank had a problem with GHA which I would scrape off of rocks on a regular basis.

This algae is very thick and you can feel each individual stock. It is very easy to pull out and I can grab large chunks of it at a time. If it is Cladophoropsis then I am probably leaving the roots still attached to the rocks when I pull it out.

Over 2 years ago when I started the hobby one of the frags from a local fish store had bryopsis on it and it started spreading on my rocks. Bryopsis usually has tips that look like feathers or "ferns" and was impossible to remove by hand. I used Reef Flux and that knocked it out.

I'm just trying to figure out what it is I am dealing with. Don't have a microscope.

Is this typical GHA but under different tank conditions it can morph into something else or is that not how algae works?
