I have this in both my saltwater tanks and it's driving me crazy. Nothing I do reduces it for long, and none of my cleanup crew (other than my tiny rainford goby) really seems to eat it (or at least make a dent in it). It seems kind of spiderwebby/ snotty like dinos but more of a hair texture... If that makes sense. Soft, breaks away easy, but comes back fast. Any help ID'ing it would be helpful.

also notice the 'hairs' are laying down flat, makes me think there is not enough flow in the tank. Do you have powerheads in the tank?

Also see a lot of algae growth on that intake valve and on the side of the tank, that gives an impression of not enough maintenance. Do some water changes, and scrape and syphon that algae out.

I’m not sure what the algae is, but noticed a lot of light coming from the right side of the tank.

Is this tank getting hit with a lot of natural light every day? If so, it may be contributing to your algae issue.
Yeah, it's getting light from a nearby window for sure. I actually don't mind hair algae as this tank is mostly for one small Rainford goby that only eats hair algae and pods, it's the more spidery/snotty looking hair algae that I am concerned about, that seems to have just developed recently.

I do maintenance/20% water change once a week and don't ever feed the tank. This picture is about 4 days since maintenance. The stringy/spiderweb algae develops fast. There is no power head, this tank is about 8 gallons and I haven't found anything weak enough that won't blow my goby around. The filtration is just a hang on back filter. The hair lying down is actually it being pushed by the flow coming from the HOB.

I should also mention that this tank was basically algae free until I introduced a rock from my other tank which also has this problematic algae and is not next to windows, has power heads, and is maintained more because higher bioload.

It looks like it on the back wall but I’ve never seen it this long on rocks. Does it come off really easily when you use a tooth brush ?

I have lyngbya and I’ve tried the most obvious things and none work. Right now I am trying to decrease phosphates to 0,05 ppm and nitrates to 5 ppm. I am also adding bacteria (but I’ve been doing that for a while) and I’ve stopped dosing AFR (mostly because of dinos but it might help with that as well).

I hope this works for me but this thing is just horrible.
