Pretty sure it's a spaghetti leather tree, it seems, to wobble back and forth throughout the day/night, and most of the day it leans toward the live rock and almost lays down, there's also some strange brown peeling almost only at the base, opinions?

What are your water parameters? To me it looks like the base is rotting and I would cut that part off if it was me, Back when I use to keep leathers that happened to a couple of mine during a mini cycle I had, at first I thought maybe it was shedding or something but looking at it good it looks rotten for sure so I'd frag that part off.

It doesn't look like the polyps are extending like they should so something is making it mad.

I've kept those for years and they always seem to look rough around the base like that. Mine get cyano around the bottom sometimes.

Problem is that many people who write in to ask questions might listen to what you say.

Hopefully they do as I speak from personal experience, I don't link Live aquaria info to try and help people out, we all know live aquaria is the last website to take info from(well most of us anyway) , So please stop with the smart remarks towards me and others Iv seen your recent post all over this forum.

Well my water parameters are rather normal, sg 1.025, dkh usually 9, calcium 420, Ph 8.0 or 8.1, po4 always under .25, nitrates almost always 0, temp usually 78-80. And I do have small amounts of cyano, none that I've seen on this coral, and it's fairly slow growing, going to get around to riding the tank of cyano this week. Anyways the coral in question here is quite active is it's movements and I have seen noticeable growth over the two months I've had it. During the night as it goes to sleep it usually stands back upright first, then starts to fold the branches inward, and then lean instead towards the tank glass. Also I never see this coral shed skin whereas my leather toadstool mushrooms shed almost every other week. here's a pic of it starting to close, all the way closed, and a close up of polyps (not sure if pictures attached)

By the looks of the base, its looks as if it wants to detach and find another spot to camp. He may not like where you have him.

Now I wonder if he maybe needs more light? Cuz during the day he's always leaning toward the live rock (up hill) and after a couple months I also moved the toadstool leathers higher up and they seem to be doing a bit better up there. Both of these say placement any, I believe. I guess I'll move it this afternoon and follow up with updates :/

Very nice. Cant hurt any, and if he likes it, those polyps will burst open for you.

It's hard to tell by picture if it's starting to rot or just some algae at the base. If you take a toothbrush to the base and it starts to disintegrate, you have a problem. If it just wipes off then it's just some algae on the base, it's fairly common.

Well I brushed some off with my finger, it's almost like dead skin, but it doesn't come off easy or disintegrate. And in the close up of the polyps, I think that's about as open as they get?

I wouldn't worry then. I have some neon green leathers that have that around the base every now and then. I keep mine on the top rocks. They like the light and flow.
