I just got this frag from my LFS for free. I went to pick up a damsel and one of the employees I knew said they were having trouble with these frags and offered one to me and one to my friend. I put it in my tank, but Im not sure if its still alive. Any ideas?

Yeah I was gonna leave it for a while but wanted to check in case I shouldnt get my hopes up. I got a totally browned out rainbow monti from a friend and it immediately opened up and is already starting to go back to blue coloration, so I have hopes for this one. When do I know to call it quits and ditch it?

You will know when the coral is dead. It will start looking more like rock, with algae and Coraline growing on it etc. I can see color in the tissue, and the polyps still are distinguishable as a different color... When things are bad, the tissue will die or recede and leave behind skeleton.

It is but unhappy. Elevate off sand and assure medium light and water flow.
Additionally , assure CA, alk, salinity and nitrates arent elevated

Well I just put it in the tank and Im fairly sure it has enough lighting. Im assuming unhappy is because I moved it in today. If it doesn't improve I'll definitely move it up, but my tank parameters are definitely fine as my other corals are doing quite well and I recently tested my water

What is age of tank and what are your readings for : alk, ca, mag, salinity, nitrate and phosphate ?
What test kits are you using ?
From, pic, light is too blue and not bright enough.

I dont remember exact. Had it tested at my KFS to be sure and they use red sea for everything.

Alk: dont remember
Ca: 420
Mag: 1400s
Salinity: 35.8
Nitrate: 5 ppm
Phosphate: 0.09 ppm (added chemipure elite to filter)
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0

I run an aquaknight a029 at 100% blue and 60% white on a standard aqueon 10 gallon.

Mag elevated- not dangerous
Salinity- climbing

Kerp an eye on it. Pocci not terribly picky and when thriving will spread like wildfire

Got it. I usually get 1.025 saltwater from the fish store and do top offs with RODI, so I imagine it'll stay good, but good to know about pocci. Thanks for the advice! Hugely appreciated!

At least a couple of inches. As far as sps goes this is a great grower. Double in 2-3 months
