Look up pineapple sponges and see if that’s what you’re seeing.

if soft i'd say sponges. if hard, could just be normal feather dusters or if in a small circular pattern, spirorbid worms.

whatever you pictured first in your original post, looks like clumped sand or pieces of rock.
