Jack o lantern growth question

Hey guys! I've got a frag of this growing from its plug onto a piece of tile and spreading out nicely. I thought it would be a good idea for future fragging to break a few pieces of frag plugs and glue it around the perimeter so that it would encrust over them. So far it looks like its starting to creep up but the interesting thing is that the growth on just the flat tile is well outpacing the growth up the broken pieces of plugs. My question is will this actually encrust up and over the plugs or is it just causing a barrier? Anyone have experience with this i would love to hear from you! Thanks in advance
