Hi guys, I’ve had this toadstool over a month now. For the first couple of weeks it was absolutely thriving (as shown in last photo) however I did have cyano at the time.
I’ve since got rid of it with cyano RX and it hasn’t come back.
I did have higher phosphates at the time at around 0.25 which I’ve been working down with GFO in a reactor and I’m also constantly dosing nitrates to bring that up (which it doesn’t seem to be changing)
Also dosing All for reef for a slight ALK boost too.
My concern is after about 2 weeks the toad stall closed up and has been closed for maybe 3 weeks now. With the occasionally tiny strand or 2 poking out in the day. The last couple of days I have give it a little puff with a turkey baster to make sure no detritus build up and the polyps seem to be “bailing” how ever they are still attached as if by a hair.
I haven’t seen anything actually fall off but it doesn’t seem like it would take alot for it to break.
I know leathers are known to sulk for a week or so at a time and I’m guessing a combination of cyano medication, a drop in phosphate, the addition of a skimmer and the addition of a small bit of chaeto in the sump all in the past month may have altered water chemistry and caused this closing up.
I’ve held off on dipping it as I don’t want to cause more stress but I feel 3 weeks it a little long so looking for any advice or if anyone has been in a similar situation.
In regards to the rest of the tank I have a small aiptasia problem but none seem to be near or stinging the toad stall. I have a few Ricordea mushrooms thriving, fuzzy green mushrooms thriving and multiplying, same with rock flower anemones (all which require similar conditions) so it has stumped me.
I know it’s only a toad stall but it’s kind of one I’ve always seeked out for and don’t come around to often where I’m from so would’ve bummer to loose it.
Thanks
