Well here it finally is, it has been a long time coming! I have been planning this build for a few years but I am a college student and had to wait until I got into an apartment. I picked up a JBJ 30 RL off of Craigslist with a bunch of miscellaneous other stuff for a great deal at the end of May but my lease started in August. So after some equipment cleaning, the whole setup sat in storage for the summer.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago...
The tank was still dirty so that took a fun couple days of cleaning and scraping. I also discovered that the rear baffles needed re-siliconing so a couple of more days there. Finally I could get water in this thing! A trip to the LFS and 7 or 8 buckets of RO/DI to the second floor apartment later and I started filling. But wait, I had to drain it and give it more silicone. :(

The tank is now up and cycling in my living room and looks darn nice. Can't wait to start stocking.

Equipment List:
Razor LED 60w Nano
2 Stock Return Pumps @230gph each
Smart ATO
Hydor Slim Skim Nano
Misc Unnamed 200w heater that came with the tank

20lb Fiji-Pink arag alive sand
10lb Carib sea dry aragonite sand
~15-20 lb dry Reef Saver rock

I added a shrimp to start the cycle and some of a bacterial booster I had sitting around, the shrimp is gone, I saw the ammonia spike, nitrite spike, and never saw nitrates. I am now at 0 for all 3 parameters. How long should I wait before adding fish?

Some damsels or chromis will help with your cycle and are hardy enough. You may have another mini cycle after you add fish. Once you do wait another two weeks after you register zeros on Ammonia and Nitrites and you should be good to go after that to add some easy corals or more fish.

Added 2 Mocha ocellaris clowns today. They seem to be doing well. They staked out the corner of the tank that is the absolute furthest from the couch.

Got all the spikes and now all my parameters are running at 0.

Good trouble: Have mushrooms ever become pests in your aquarium?
