So I decided to downsize from a 90 gallon aquarium. I'm switching over to this killer JBJ 45 Rimless all in one aquarium that I got an AWESOME deal on from Top Shelf Aquatics (my LFS). I turned my 29 gallon QT tank into a temporary reef tank to house what i'm keeping out of the 90 since i'll likely have to sell the 90 itself to finish buying what I need for the 45.

I'm currently using a 200 watt Cobalt Neo Therm heater, Deepwater Aquatics HOB skimmer and i'm planning on using a TLF Phosban 150 for bio pellets, and a 2nd TLF Phosban 150 for a carbon/GFO mix. I replaced the filter sponges that came with the tank with pillow stuffing from Wal-Mart for mechanical filtration. I'm keeping the stock return pumps that came with it for now, but I may upgrade to a single DC pump instead.

For flow I bought a MP-10 and i'm hoping that one will be sufficient. I'm planning for this to be a mixed reef of SPS, zoos and chalices. I bought 30 pounds of Fiji Pink live sand that I will add in a couple days. As of right now i'm planning on using a Radion XR30 gen 2 as soon as I find a good deal on one.

I got dry pukani rock from BRS and a couple branch pieces too. I just added the water tonight so i'm going to cure the dry rock for at least a month before I add any livestock. I will be fishless cycling with ammonia drops.

So that's it, I figured i'd add this since I didn't see too many builds for this tank, might be useful for someone planning on buying one.

Update:

Today I added a Smart ATO Micro and two TLF Phosban 150 reactors. One with a mix of BRS Premium ROX 0.8 Carbon(6 TBSP) and BRS GFO(8 TBSP), the other reactor has 100 mL of BRS Bio-Pellets. I also had to perform a 10 gallon water change and clean the skimmer as it was getting really gross from curing the dry rock.

I tested all the parameters (after the water change) @ 03 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, .24 ppm phosphate, 375 ppm calcium, 10.86 dKH, 1,245 ppm magnesium , 1.024 salinity and 8.2 pH.

I also added some MB7 and 20 pounds of live sand to speed up the cycle. I will wait until phosphates are 0 before I turn on the light.

Thanks, I will. Not much to update at the moment. I'm just waiting for the cycle to finish. I'm down to 02 ppm ammonia and 0.16 ppm phosphate.

Ok so I got tired of waiting for the cycle so I added a bottle of Dr. Tim's One and Only Nitrifying Bacteria today. When I added it I had 3 ppm ammonia and 0.25 ppm nitrite, so I'll see how long it takes to go down although since there is nitrite it's safe to say that the cycle is definitely started.

I had a few areas that I didn't like how the light was hitting so I ended up rearranging the rocks a bit, I also wanted to create a passage way between the two rock structures, let me know what you all think!
