JBJ ATO Help

I picked up a used JBJ ATO to use on a JBJ 28 tank. My interests were to set it up using both floats to turn the pump off when they “floatedâ€. I basically want a two float system to assure when one switch went bad, the other would still turn off the pump to the water reservoir.


So I’m looking at the instructions and I don’t see were that is an option with the JBJ.



Am I missing something? I really want a backup float valve since there is no extra volume in an All-In-One tank to fit all that extra reservoir water when the switch goes bad.

If I am understanding your question correctly . The mode B installation would be what u want. Sensor 1 at the top water line and the sensor 2 at the lowest water line

I dont think there is a backup function to this ATO. mode A is for 1 float and mode b is for 2 floats.(or Vise Versa) but the second float is to make sure you dont fry the pump in the event the ATO tank is empty. I use this ATO set up with one float but i have the ATO tank hooked up to the RO/DI unit. If it has the original floats i suggest putting a small dab of silicone where the wires meat the float. They corrode quickly. Sorry I dont have a direct answer for you but you are pretty technical. im sure you can figure out a split or a complete re program lol. If you need a replacement float let me know. I got like 10 of them when i replaced mine. Im sure others will have more info.

UF, first off, thanks for the quick response, but I don’t see how Mode B would work. Maybe I didn’t explain in enough detail. On my other tank I have an AquaHub ATO. It has two float switches side-by-side, with one slightly higher than the other. It’s a back-up system in case one float switch fails, the other will turn off the pump. Here is a picture of the AquaHub:

Well I saw this JBJ ATO for sale with two float switches and figured I could just do the same thing. Once I got it home and looked up the instructions online, I just don’t see that option. I need both float switches turning off when they go “up.” When I read their instructions, regardless of which mode I’m in on the JBJ, one float is off when “up” and the other is off when “down.”

Sorry I dont have a direct answer for you but you are pretty technical. im sure you can figure out a split or a complete re program lol.

To familiarize myself with this ATO, I set it up with a light plugged into the controllable outlet. The first thing noted was that one of the float switches was DOA. So I now only have one switch anyway. I guess I should have read all the instructions instead of only looking at the pictures, because after a couple minutes of being on, the feed pump automatically shuts off. I timed this and it varied between two minutes and four minutes. Bottom line is that now I feel more comfortable setting this up with one float switch. When the switch goes bad the unit will “time out†and not cause a flood.

Red fish, oops my bad! I didn't notice that your wanting just the one float switch to work and if it fails the second one would catch the faulty first float switch .... Idk on that one. But if you figure that out. Please by all means share....
