Hi , I’ve been fish keeping for about 20years now in one way or another . I really love tropic biotopes and that’s just what I kept for a long time . Then my wife and I had my son and now I’m down to just 2 tanks, being a parent and both of us being self employed ( in very different fields ) meant now i just have tanks to admire , not to try to breed anything or keep anything particularly unusual. Just something that makes us all smile . So I’ve got my big 6ftx2x2 as an Amazon idealised biotope in the dining room and I have a 3ft ish cube tank in the hall . It was a Congo tank but has since been drained cleaned and switched over to a reef. Exact measurements are 94cm wide 78cm tall and 78cm front to back ( it fits in a awkward space and was custom made) .I wish I’d been brave enough to drill the bottom to fit a weir and a sump but I wasn’t ! So I’m running on a oase 850 thermo that’s basically full of bioballs and the top tray is running a bag of carbon and rowaphos . It work nicely to be honest and the oase pre filter sponges act like a filter sock . I give them a clean every 3 days . I’d just rather a sump from a tidy point of view . Skimmer I’m running a mec601 deltec ( still getting to grips with this ) . Lighting is one Neptune sky Running at 65% . Reefwave45 and a AI Nero 3 for flow.
Single dosing pump running all for reef ( if I upgrade this later I’d go for the Red Sea 4 dose. I do have a glass lid so not sure if I need a ATO . So now for some photos of the build plus a up to date one . Still battling diatoms a little . It’s been running about 5 weeks now .
