I looked into getting one for our tank, but they apparently don't play well with little guys.
He is the smallest thing in my tank except the clowns. The male clown host the Goni next to him and all seems fine. Today the clown is spending more time in the Duncan so not sure if the longnose said beat it.

My hawk acts tough but as soon as anyone pushes back he scurries away and hides.

Looks like a job well done to me! Ill get some closeup pics on how I have the slimmer tuned for you tomorrow.
My hawk got pushed around by the Tomini for a little bi over spots. PBT and Lineatus came over a few times to sniff butts then everything went back to normal.

Skimmer was working great and now this. Idk. I opened the big knob and lowered water level in skimmer low in the skimmer body. We will see.
No hurry on the pictures life is more important

I’m late but have pictures.

Spent today working on my mess. Cleaned the salt on the lid from the wrasse and cleaned the glass. Had about three clams, bunch of LRS and 1/4 pack of mysis down the glass and cabinet. Skipped vacuuming sand bed this week. Swapped out the wet side powerheads for a clean set. Did my weekly 10 gallon water change. Got motivation to move a few corals around.

Lineatus in upper right of picture is starting to get more orange/golden yellow on the dorsal and tail. I can’t belive how much she grew since getting her.

Confused my skimmer cup has been filling up every other day. It’s very light colored waste. I adjusted water level and air screw but nothing seems to help. Because it is pulling so much water it is lowering my salinity.

Picked up a new little dude. Such a great addition to the front left corner of the display. Thanks for the push @Fudsey

He been staying on the Goni rock. Since adding him Goni has not stretched out.

Will the Acan’s become a problem for the Goni when they grow out?
I’m guessing yes

He also likes to hangout by the Gorg.
@Raege check out the polyps. It’s always happy

Removed the gsp rock and hacked it up. The loose rocks in the sand bed are waiting to get some gsp

My wiring is a bit messy and dangling from swapping equipment or remove for maintenance. Need to find time to clean it up. My living room looks like a disaster from today’s shenanigans.
Great pictures and the tank looks very nice!

Now the NYOS Quantum. It should be run with the air screw fully open, so if it’s overskimming you need to turn and ‘open’ the long tube so the water level drops and is around the base of the collection cup. Just do small adjustments as it’s quiet sensitive. You can also use the ‘fine’ adjustment screw at the top but I never bother with that, just the main tube.

Sometimes skimmers do ‘freak out’ for no apparent reason, and if it happens I just turn it down (open the tube) and then slowly close it with small adjustments over a few days.

My pictures don’t compare to your talent but thank you. I do my beat with an iPhone.

I will adjust air screw fully open and reset water level. Skimmer water to bubble line was below the base of the cup and still would fill up the collection cup.
I disassembled and gave it a good cleaning and it seems better. It was pretty clean already but something must of been bothering it.
Thank you for the help.

The goby Has different entrance ways and lately he been in the front of the tank. Wanted a picture of the pistol shrimp but Goby had him go back in when Borbonius, Tomini, PBT came over for a pictures. It was the first time the Goby stood up to the PBT instead of hiding.
If you look closely you can spot the little snail killing claws

Almost forgot. Looks like you got some tips on the Nyos already. As I said elsewhere mines running in 9.5” water. Here’s my air screw. Its attached to a CO2 scrubber but thats where I keep it for a dryer skim. I cant get an angle to snap a pic of the outlet tube but using my old 120 this is where I keep the 160. Large adjustment is wide open and the smaller adjustment knob is closed about 1/3rd of the way. Hope it helps!

Thank you for taking the time for pictures. Not helping Skimmer is in 10.5” water. I had my big knob 1/4 closed. Air valve I was close to you. I opened big knob and will see what happens.

The bubble / water line in the skimmer is at the bottom - middle of the M where it’s says quantum.
I thought that should be higher like around the cup.

Yep. Ideally you want the bubbles to be a little higher in the neck. Shoot for just above where cup attaches. In theory being in 10.5” you would have the outlet open more than I do in 9.5”.

Obviously bioload and feeding habits play a role.

If I put the bubble / water line where you are pointing it will fill the cup with water. I am normally an inch or so lower.

It might be worth raising the skimmer up as the recommended height is around 21cm (8 inches ) so this could be causing your issue with over skimming and the actual water level your trying to achieve

I can’t remember your sump set up but maybe stand it on something?

Original I had a stand but removed it because it didn’t make much of a difference. Over the weekend I was going to go back to using the stand but it won’t if I’m my skimmer area. Need to make a new stand and try that.
Most of the problem is me but I will get it with the info you and Scurvy gave me

Don, I have this stand I made out of a R2R frag rack I can send ya. Its 8”x5”x2.25”

I used it for my 120 and don't need it for the 160. The skimmer will hang over the sides but it should pop you up to a better working height.

Dont waste that beauty on a skimmer riser! They're cheap! I need more frags racks! Hahaha.

That really is nice looking tho. ;)

FWIW, I had to raise my reef octopus skimmer in my sump, I used a 4" PVC coupler, worked great and only cost 58 cents ;)
