Excerpt from Glass Box Design.

Some of my favorite fish are nearly impossible to keep. Specifically I’m talking about Meyer’s Butterflyfish (Chaetodon meyeri), the Ornate Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ornatissimus) and the Reticulated Butterflyfish (Chaetodon reticulatus). Some ichthyologists place these obligated coral feeders (corallivores) within the Citharoedus subgenus. All three share similar osteology and a jaw structure that allows them to prey on any hint of polyp extension they see.

Interesting. While I'm generally a fan of morphs and hybrids (I myself have a pelewensis x punctatofasciatus), the three true species mentioned in this story are just so gorgeous, it's really tough to appreciate the resulting hybrid.

I know that's a juvenile, but it does look sort of sweet, sort of has a two-tone Ska thing going on.

Curious..how long before we're keeping reefs to such a degree we can grow coral to feed to these varieties in a similar manner to growing macroalgae in a fuge to feed to tangs?
