Kalk paste + PhytoFeast testing on Aiptasia killing

I am going to try reconstituting kalk powder (Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime) with a few drops of Reef Nutrition PhytoFeast instead of RODI. Maybe the presence of "food" will help get the Aiptasia swallowing the kalk and dying a most gruesome death. Testing to commence today with PhytoFeast. Later I might try RotiFeast, PacPods and even ROE or BetaBrine.

Disclaimer: this is not a randomized, controlled trial. I wouldn't call this a "study". I'm just a man on a mission.

Aiptasia does not eat phytoplankton. Also, the presence of the kalk would probably prevent any feeding behavior as its an immediate irritant.

Really? I understood F-Aiptasia to basically be kalk paste + something that initiates a feeding response. Am I wrong?

I haven't noticed f-aiptasia triggering a feeding response. Usually I just smother it over the aiptasia until it cakes on. I could be wrong though, as I don't know if the tentacles are moving due to a feeding response or retracting. I'll try some on with my friend's tank to double check.

I use either boiling water (when there are no corals near the aiptasia) or kalk paste (when there are corals nearby). However, I have a hard time with kalk paste when the Aips are situated horizontally. I can sometimes get a blob of kalk on their oral disk, but more often than not, it just slides off and hits the sand bed (or worse, a coral or RFA). Just trying out an idea to see if the Aiptasia "grab" the food-laden kalk paste.

Option 2 - use some coral putty and just cover them up for the ones on the vertical surfaces. Option 3 - buy 1-2 nudi's and then no more Aips.

10 nudis so far. Lots and lots of Aips. I suspect it is my Yellow chrysus wrasse.. or my leopard wrasse.. or my two pink streak wrasses... or my pencil wrasse...

I mix up a very thick kalkwasser paste then I take a q-tip and roll it around in it till it is covering one of the cotton tips. Then I take that tip and hold it against the anemone for a good 30 seconds. You can really only use one q-tip per an enemy as they start to get soft in the tank.

At one point I thought about those silicone reusable q-tips. But why spend money when I can keep using the ones my wife has in the bathroom for free?
