For those asking for an update—I’ve been running the Reef Master SPA since January, so about 9 months now
Maintenance & Error Codes.
The first few months were smooth sailing. Around month 3, I got my first “tube blockage” error. The app not only displayed the error but also pulled up a short troubleshooting video. Fixing it was simple—open the unit and swap the tubing. You can clean the tube, but honestly, it’s easier to just replace it. On average, I get one of these blockages about every 45 days on the saltwater line. Takes 5 minutes to fix.
At month 6, I had a “low light path vessel” warning. Again, the app walked me through it with a video. Basically, the reaction vessel can get a little dirty over time. I popped off 4 screws, cleaned it with a Q-tip, and it was back to normal. I’ve since ordered spare vessels ($5 each) so I can just swap them instead of cleaning.
Reliability
So far: 3 tube blockages + 1 vessel clean in 9 months. That’s it. No bad readings, no need for a technician. This is a huge difference from what I expected (especially compared to Trident). The SPA really is designed for user-level maintenance.
Accuracy & Auto Balance
Testing has been consistent and accurate throughout. After months of manually dosing KH on a set schedule, I hooked the SPA up to my doser and enabled the “auto balance” feature. It’s been running that way for about 2 months now—daily tests, automatic adjustments—and I’m very impressed with the results.
Overall Take
Minimal upkeep, cheap consumables, accurate testing, and the peace of mind that I’ll never have to ship it off to a tech. I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
