I've had the tank running for over a year now, I haven't done much with it because I've been busy. But I'm starting to edge back in and the one thing that I can't seem to dial in is the amount of detritus that floats in the water - I've never had a "clear" view of the tank since adding extra power heads in to try to keep the water flow going on this 12 footer. (See pic)

I understand the turnover rate of the tank through the sump and return pump is important - but how important is the tank volume turnover in the DT, in reference to the flow rate of the power heads?

Is there a target turnover/hour for the power heads?

I wanna see if I can dial the power heads back to try to reduce the detritus in the tank.

BRS had a really good video a while back that covers target turnover rates depending on what corals you are trying to keep. It’s a long video but Hope that helps.
