Kent Marine Salt

I have been using Kent Marine Salt (200 gallon mix) ever since I started this hobby. Recently, I had noticed that this item is becoming harder and harder to find. Dr Foster and Smith was always my go to. I would also use Marine Depot and Amazon. DFS, and MD both don't carry this product any longer. I was able to find a box on Amazon, although their was limited quantity left. I have a sneaky suspicion that I will have to be making a switch of salt brands. Is Kent Marine Salt being fazed out?

Curious as to what y'all think, and to what brands I should switch too?

That's what got me started on the Kent bandwagon, I believe they still sell it, but its pretty expensive.

There are lots of excellent salt choices out there. I also used to use kent, but have since switched brands. I would not switch salt frequently, but there is little reason to go out of your way for a specific salt IMO.

Sorry if I am not sure what salt to switch to. I have been using Kent for 12 or so years and that is all I know. I have narrowed down my options...

When I buy salt, I am looking to purchase large mix boxes or buckets as I mix a lot of salt.

I run Tropic Marin pro for 2 main reasons, I like that it’s pharmaceutical grade and I can get it locally for the same price as they sell it online. I would also do some research and try to find a new salt that matches the parameters you keep.

Hard to beat Coralife salt for its price when it was carried by DRF&S (now Liveaquaria). Not sure how available it will be after the clearance sale. I would add Liveaquaria Salt to your list to try.

I go through a lot of salt. I don't dose and do water changes (50 gal) once weekly, so salt can become expensive for me quickly. I liked the 200 gallon box that Kent offered and would like to switch to something similar in price and quantity.

Check out the new brs video it breaks down the price per gallon. Yes Tropic Marin is more expensive upfront but over the course of the bucket it’s only a few cents more per gallon then some of the cheaper options they tested. Obviously I don’t know where Kent falls into the equation since they didn’t test it but I doubt it is that much cheaper per gallon.

I predict they will be the last to discontinue.

I mixed my salt to 35 ppm and with Kent's my calcium is over 650 and a dkh of about 8. The ratios are all wrong (from what I understand). I have moved on.
