Every photo or video I’ve seen of Kenya Trees, whether they’re green, purple, or that pinkish-brown color, seems to show them with sturdy, trunk-like bases and a bushy, tree-like structure.

A little over a month ago, I was gifted a baby Kenya Tree. When fully extended, it was barely 2 inches tall. Fast forward to now, and it’s already grown to 6–7 inches with plenty of branches. The problem is, it’s growing tall and skinny instead of short and stubby like I imagined.

Does anyone know if this is just a phase? Do Kenya Trees eventually stop growing taller and start thickening up to look more like a proper tree? Or is there something I can do to guide its growth in the direction I want? I had this vision of shaping my Kenya Tree to look like a short, fat underwater bonsai—something with a thick trunk and lots of branches.

It will get thicker eventually. Just watch for it to start dropping little branches off, unless you want them growing all over your tank...

This one’s living down in the back of the system. Grew from a dripped branchlet.

It gets culled to the base and this is it’s 3rd or 4th go at growing out. Lost count. Almost time to cut it out again.

Thanks everyone! I definitely plan on keeping it pruned and having a single small "tree". I'll give it a couple of more months to see how it fills out.
