I was just wondering if anyone is running kessil 350 over sps reefs. I love the look and shimmer of the light and with the controllable 360 out I have no more excuses. The only thing is I have never seen these lights over an established sps reef. If you run these lights over a sps tank please let me know your thoughts, how do they compare to your previous lights, how do your colors look, ext. thanks... Pics are always nice too!

Kessells are good, but they dont have the red/green spectrum for some types of corals. i would simply compare kessells to AI sols. they can grow corals but they wont look as nice. thats my thoughts though.

I don't think spectrum is as much of a factor as intensity. They're just too weak unless you have multiples over a relatively small tank.

What colors make up white light? Intense white light is far more important as all colors make up white light.

They will work. I have owned one in the past and I know plenty of people use them as the light source for their tanks. You can do a search and find the pics, i've witnessed the color is pretty awesome actually. Just sucks you can't use white/blue on different timers. I think they corrected this with the new one coming out.

Yep. There is plenty of red and green in all the white LED lighting. Adding extra is a gimmick and unnecessary. Red is the first color to go when filtered out by the depths saltwater.

As for the original question the Kessil A350s do great for growing SPS. I was growing SPS in a 29 gallon with the A150W Sky Blue. The A350 can just go deeper and the A305W have a great spread.

Now the A360Ws i have been using over my reef for over two months. They do have a slightly different chip set up than the 350s which i think is more crisp with clear whites. Not too much more than the 350s tho. The other advantage to the A360s is the Kessil logic computer chip. This will compensate for power loss when tuning the spectrum to blue to white. This was the LED that made me get rid of my Radium 400w pendants. The color and growth is as good or better. My LPS are out of control with growth and the polyps are much larger. Kessil is the only Aquarium LED manufacturer that makes their own LEDs and specs them after R&R over actual reef tanks. Plus they are the only ones to use a glass lens, which makes all the difference in the blending of the color and the amount of that spectrum that is not filtered while it passes threw is reduced.

Sandollar Monti after the first day in the tank.

Same one two weeks later.

The AIs and Radions are nice, but the only advantage they had were the controllable. Now the A360s are out Kessil has is all.

Sorry missed this Q. This coral was grown in someone else tank using halides. The pictures were to show how quickly the coral has adapted to the Kessil LED.

Wow nice set up. That is pretty much my dream tank with the exception of it being acrylic.

I would not use a Kessil for anything above 30 gallons. Especially not for SPS. Not that the light is not strong enough. The problem is the single point source will cause a lot of shadows when the SPS grows out. As you can see from Buddy's tank, the Kessil is a good light capable of growing corals, but there are many better choices for an SPS dominant tank.

Kessells are good, but they dont have the red/green spectrum for some types of corals. i would simply compare kessells to AI sols. they can grow corals but they wont look as nice. thats my thoughts though.

+1. (From experience)

There are different types of white light. The sols use cool white (removing a lot of the yellows, reds and greens).

There will be shadows on all led lighting the difference would be in choosing the correct amount of lighting to have overlapping spread. Shadows caused when growing out SPS. I have several diff kinds of LED fixtures as well as Kessil. I disagree people often only use one light on their tanks thinking that this is enough when in fact they 2 or 3 for the correct light spread and overlap as well as the correct height adjustment and intensity.
