KH Guardian: Automatic Alkalinity Controller- My Experiences

Here is my completed solution made by a fellow reefer morpheas for mounting my Guardian.

The Guardian sets perfectly in the bracket that has all the proper cutouts for the hoses, PH connector etc.

The piece on the left is what I had crafted in response to a question Jonty posed about securing my reaction chamber. It's an adjustable paddle the sets against the chamber. All parts are 3D printed.

Coralvue does not sell the probe can we just use any lab grade probe ? This does add considerably to the cost of operation . I do not understand some of your response do we change probes every 3-4 months or every 18 months?

Coralvue has the probe in stock please contact them if you need to buy one.

We suggest if you have two probes on hand please EXCHANGE them in every 3-4 months.

But if you only have one on KHG please change a new one after 18 months.

Regrading to use other brand of probe, each probe has different size and it will complete make KHG test value totally wrong. So we suggest you buy it from Corlvue.

My unit is on its way back to me. They replaced the chamber with float and sensor. Based on the troubleshooting Wang Zheng Yi had me doing it seemed to be narrowed down to that chamber sensor.

I don't own one of these units, but I was very interested to hear about peoples experiences with them. It occurs to me that if the probe (height) is adjustable, and the volume of sample water is determined by a float switch, then the accuracy can never be guaranteed, based on the variability of the probe height, as the submerged portion will displace a portion of the sample. So while switching over to one of these devices, you may want to take into consideration, that the KH reading you see might be offset. I noticed that the first instinct is to bring the KH inline with your intended target.

The device has an error correction setting (I believe), so testing against a standard solution (if possible) after every adjustment to the probe would help to take into account the (possible) error. Hopefully the slope (of the possible error) is linear. Unless of course the device uses the KH adjustment fluid as a self check and then it could do a self calibration if the adjustment fluid is mixed to the correct concentration.

Took about 7 hours yesterday, but finally got my KH Monitor and AIM up and running. I had several hiccups, the biggest of which being the old user manual on coralvue showing the wrong placement for the type of PH probe I have (thanks Boom Corals for sharing that!). My initial results were way off.

I still need to figure out if I'm going to use this to control my dosing, or just a monitor. Interested to see how other people use the monitor version with apex.

I have the interval set to 240 mins, but it appears that it's adding about 20 mins between each test. Is there some way to get it to test at consistent times? Since the interval doesn't appear to be consistent, I don't think subtracting 20 mins will get me there.

The one thought I had is that it records at the end of the test. It should be testing every 240 minutes and you can watch the device countdown with the NT value. 15-18 minutes seems on the high side for a test. Have you timed how long your tests take?

I haven't timed it, but it doesn't take 15-18 mins. The test portion is sub 10, but it does a cleaning mode and reboots after that.

Are you noticing any difference in the KHG unit alk reading and the one displayed onto the apex?

The small difference is clearly documented by KHG it is a result of converting the signal from digital to analog and back to digital.

Things are growing! KHG is still kicking! I've moved my alk from 7.4-7.8 dKh to 8.4-8.8 dKh and have seen an increase in growth and color!

Just received my KH Guardian and am having some technical difficulties, My alk is high at the moment, sitting on 10.8. I have set my KH Auto correction to 11.5.
First question is the accelerator or stirror, when I first ran it a few times, it was really noisy. I remove the magnetic pill and replaced it. It is now quiet, so not sure if it is running or not. I get the ACC error on the screen but not on the display record.
Second question is when testing the pH of the water goes down to 6, it then goes to A and runs the test twice, anyone have this before?

Hi Stylater, not on its own, but with an Apex controller you could. If you get the Kh Guardian controller, it will dose Alk for you.
