Kh tester Hanna accurate

It’s a screen grab from a random site when I was fact checking the accuracy. I agree precision is the wrong word. The point of the post remains valid and I used the correct word in my post :)

Couple places have it with the wrong word

Yes, I wasn’t suggesting you were misusing the word. Someone must have rewritten it for a reseller site and got it wrong. Lol

Fair challenge.

The main reaons is it’s very simple. My daughter does it for me while I am away. It’s easy to be consistent and it’s accurate enough for my purposes.

Also, I honestly have a hard time detecting the color change in titration. I’m never quite sure if I’m done, over did it, or not quite enough. It probably doesn’t matter much, I’m sure I’m close enough, but that failing of mine means titration probably isn’t any more accurate for me personally.

I understand the other person effect. FWIW, I use a pH meter for the endpoint. Gives me the tank pH at the same time, and I use the probe to stir it. lol

I actually use a cheap plastic transfer pipette for the acid, drawing from a little yogurt cup of acid on my scale. As I draw out acid and add it to a larger yogurt cup of tank water (with about 500 mL of weighed tank water in it) , the scale reads negative values for the weight used, and when I hit pH around 4.2, it’s done. :)

I had forgotten your method used a pH probe for the endpoint. That would solve my color problem.

I must say, I loved the mental image of your yogurt cups, scale, pipette and pH probe . The comments I’d hear from my family when they walked in on that…

Have you compared it against a Salifert test, just for fun?

One site probably started this Then smaller sites just copy pasted instead of typing the info themselves.

Do you want to write BRS a letter about the mistake ? It would have more weight from you than me lol

Sure. I’ll post to their forum here. :)

I still like doing it twice because if the first one is 8.5 and second one is like 7.8 then I know I did something wrong but if I do it twice then i can see if they are at least similar or within. 3 differnce then I know it's ok

How do fish stores test water I've seen pics of a blue meter showing test result s for kh calcium nitrate ammonia ph and phosphate saying it's the lfs testing device is that just a logger or does some multi parameter meter like that exist I know about the Hanna is there one that can do it from just small amount of water without using regains.

I need to mention that I bought the set of Hanna checkers, calcium, magnesium and alkalinity. The alkalinity was within reason, calcium was ridiculously stupid high, the magnesium three different readings none of them close. So after doing my Red Sea test and Salifert, I realized that the calcium Reagent the liquid had to be bad. 579, 550, 565. RS 440, Sal, 420. same for the magnesium except It was a user error, adding the dry regent, making sure you get all of the regent in consistently makes a difference. But I will say that it runs higher than my other tests Red Sea and Salifert. When my replacement regent came for my calcium tester. The number was between the Red Sea and the Salifert test kit. I guess nothing‘s perfect and we all have to just decide which route we want to take. Fast and inconsistent or slower and inconsistent. And then remember, we’re not chasing numbers. If it’s within a range we’re good just make sure that doesn’t fluctuate too high or too low from an acceptable range.

Haana calcium tester is kinda wierd I return it for sailfert. Worked perfectly Kept giving high readings. But dkh Hanna is awsome
It works but it’s extremely sensitive and with only .1 ml of sample water, every step needs to be done precisely
