So I got my plumbing done for my 220. It's a bean animal over flow system, plumbing is 1-1/2", into a 90-gallon sump, Now on to this filter sock area. the entire tank was a private seller purchase.

this filter sock chamber is HUGE 11" X9" ish, The previous owner had glued a panel in the center, so they were only using two socks, he claimed the front two never really got used, it was his own overkill idea for socks, I wondered about this and I gave it no thought, but now I'm almost ready to start adding water and im not sure what to do here, the two closest to the front seem useless to me any ideas on this design or how to improve it? maybe a reworking of that chamber? the egg crate addition is mine.

They can be seen as a safety measure I guess, if you fail to change the front two, the back two come into play.

I wouldn’t use socks, I would replace with filter cups and put filter wool in them.

Pondering cutting them out, drill a bizzion holes in a Tupperware container, filling with floss sheets from joanns, and setting it in place. that way nothing stay soaking in the water. I did the same on my on150 and it works amazingly well

So I found this heavy plastic box in my wifes craft room, its the right size. What if I remove the filter sock plex cut a new one to fit the inside edge of the containers lip, my wife can sew me some square filter insurets or I can just fill with floss,,

I would fill with floss, you want the water going through the floss not the holes in the sides if possible, not a big issue, just means all the water will not get filtered, or it’ll take a few passes before it does so your tank might not be as clear as it could be.

My concern with only holes in the bottom Is that the top floss gets filled rendering the lower levels of floss useless. Or am I crazy.
