Leaching rocks

Hi everybody,

My tank is almost a year old now, november the 16th it is a year old. I have tried many things, from GFO to lanthanum they all work. But once I stop it just rises again. I want my phosphate to be stable and not having to adjust constantly. I started with second hand rocks, I know this was the biggest mistake. I did the bleach curing process and all, but yea as we know they break down organic but not inorganic.. I know that my rocks are probably the issue here. My phosphate is stable but it is to high, it is around 0.64. My nitrates are around 4, would love to get my nitrates higher but yes..

Any tips or comments from my fellow reefers?

If you started with dry white rocks then keep on going. It took me close to 2 years once to drain the phosphate from the rocks with gfo.

The other precautions are to feed frozen instead of pellets or flakes, and rinse your frozen food before adding it to the adding it to the tank.

Woah.. 2 years thats crazy. I guess I have to keep going then.. and might start the GFO route again. Thanks for answering!

Personally at those levels I would attack it with the lanthanum until achieving .2 ish then start the gfo. I can testify that lowering it .1 a day has no negative effect on acropora or tangs. Why wait playing with expensive messy gfo?

Yea I had it stable for a good while at 0.15 but yea I had my few months of neglect as well. So I want to pick it up again. Might have to start dosing lanthanum again indeed.. And then GFO. Thanks for replying :)

I feed Hikaru xtreme seaweed(they love it) and a mixture of frozen foods :)
