Hey R2R not at all familiar with sps but my tank seems to grow it. I picked up a small frag that was ridiculously priced for a thumbnail. ( really like the colour :()

goes by the name red planet (I don't know if this real as they did not have a mother colony on hand) was being kept under T5 how long would you all suggest to light acclimate?
My lil tic tac is encrusting on its plug so I do know it was growing well prior

any tips for growth/colour/placement would be much appreciated thx.

Leave on sandbed for a week, move up a couple inches every few days until you get it to where you want. Red planet is an acro and they will do best in high light and high flow areas of your tank.

Take it out of the sand where it will loose color. Just glue it where you want it in the aquarium and watch it grow. Acclimation is not needed.
Each acro grows at different rates and patterns. Too close and they can have war fair. Also the Montipora that you have up real high looks like it
will spread fast and choke things down. So be aware.

I would place on the left side at that little peak. That coral is a plating acropora so placement is important to think ahead where you want all your other corals.

Yep I agree. Get it off the sand and put it mid level and be aware of what is below it. Red planet tends to start growing outward in a flat plate shape rather than a tree or stag horn shape. Be aware it will eventually shade things below it but it will show best color higher up. That being said. Even with fast growth, a piece that size will take 1.5-2 years before it starts shading things and causing you to rethink your aquascape

Had to chime in that I love the term "tic tac".... it perfectly describes what people call "frags" these days. I think this should be forced into common lingo. A "frag" = 1" and "tic-tacs" are these little 1/2" chips.

lol

Take your time and acclimate it to the light properly. The sand bed is good for a few days. Dont risk bleaching it. All tanks are different.

Every time I try to light acclimate stuff it seems like I lose 1 out of 4 corals to RTN. Now I just put it where I want it and losses stopped when getting new orders.

I don't know where you guys are buying your frags from! To me, this is a proper red planet frag. 1.5" in size and chunky.

Hey guys happy new year been super busy. had some bad times but it's a new year!xD So for starters I had my light's go out on holiday for 8 days. I got some T5's open box from brs ati of course a week after getting them my dad the GC fixed my leds.;) I went back the leds as I do not like the mixture of bulbs I tried out so now I have back-up lights. current FTS everything's still frumpy
IMAG1218[696].jpg
I picked up 2 chalices and favia quickly realized chalices don't like flow the red one end started showing skeleton. quickly moved them. right next to the favia.
IMAG1175[735].jpg
I then learned the range chalices corals sweepers found them munching on the favia the next morning.:(
IMAG1177[737].jpg
so atm I've got this tank filled with frags acclimating that need to be placed soon:)
