So I started building my own light and after ordering all of my Leds I started second guessing my purchase.

I purchased quite a bit cree XTE royal blues. But after looking it looks like I can purchase the EPE that are in a later bin that actully put off more flux per led then the XPE do.

I am building 3 sets of lights so I will end up using what I ordered but for my next two should I even bother with the extra cost for the XTE. I understand they are a lower voltage so I can have an extra led in a string. The majority of the boards I use have 12 in a series so I shouldnt need to worry about that.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Depends on what current you´re going to drive them at and how much heat you're able to handle. I can't find any info on Cree EPE but the XTE has higher radient flux at similar forward current wich combined with lower forward voltage means less effect given off as heat. The XT-E also tolerate a higher forward current wich means you need fewer to get an equal amount of luminous flux if you drive them at maximum.

Thanks Peter. I miss typed when I said EPE I was meaning XPE.

I see your point about current. Heat will not be an issue other then the wasted power it requires, my heatsinks are oversized.

Well here is my first test with leds on the starboards. Please forgive the wiring. I wanted to get a good feel for how the uv would look and the different makes of the royal blue.

I just finished my first 60 watt royal blue board but have yet to put it on the heatsink yet.
