I have a lemon peel. He's new so I have him in a 20 long quarantine tank with copper at .50 I have 1 powerhead and a 70gallom fluval HOB filter. The tang I noticed yesterday was breathing heavy. Swimming fine and eating fine and acting normal. Just heavy breathing. It's been 3 weeks. Why is the heavy breathing now? Any ideas??

Have you checked or treated for flukes? My mimic tang was loaded with them when I got him. A freshwater dip would tell.

He's is there will a low level of copper at .50 idk but I think that would take care of flukes

Copper actually doesn't treat flukes, PraziPro will but you need to be cautious using it with copper. Make sure you have plenty of air exchange and be ready to change water if you get a bacterial bloom. You only need 24-48 hours of exposure to Prazi per dose, but you do need to add a second dose 5-7 days after the first.

I would advise a freshwater dip first though, to be sure it actually is flukes and remove a large portion of the worms.

After removing the copper out of the QT tank his breathing is back to normal.
