I'm new to keeping fish and crabs, and I'm interested in keeping a leopard crab. What fish or other creatures would be good tankmates? Or would it be better to keep one by itself?

Generally, with big crabs, it's usually safer to keep them by themselves (crabs tend to be opportunistic predators) - let's see if we can get you some more attention on this thread though.

I'm assuming you're wanting to keep Hepatus epheliticus, the Calico Crab, right?
