I have a very seasoned old school LFS owner that is very very successful in reef keeping, coral growing, and overall fish knowledge.
He keeps his store reefs at 14 DKH & 1.026 salinity, what precautions or what protocol should I use when buying and acclimating his corals into my system that I keep at 9 dkh ?
This seems like a very drastic change that would shock the acros and possibly have an adverse even deadly outcome.
What would your acclimation process be ?
1150 gallon system
1.026
Ca 460
Alk 9.0
Magnesium 1490
Po4 .02
Nitrate 1-2
Doze Kalk through auto top off
AI Hybrid T5 with Kessil a360we's
Par is 175 on the bottom, 250 middle and some top areas 400-600 par, but no coral at that height right now.

Following. I've done this twice and in both cases I set up acclimation tanks and dropped the alkalinity by 0.5 each day. I didn't lose any of the more sensitive SPS going from 13 to 8.1, but I'd love to know whether that's necessary or not :)

Did your acclimation tanks also include strong lighting or not ? I could see house this could get expensive.. :)

This was before my current QT procedures, but at the time, it was a 10 gallon tank with egg crate, a 50w heater, some marinepure balls that had been cycled in the DT, and a par38 led bulb. Lighting doesn't have to be anything fancy since when they enter the DT you'll likely be starting them at a lower par and working them up so as not to burn them.
