BRS did it for me! I watched the lighting video BRS produced for the AI 26 HD. The optimal par values for the 24" inch depth was at 14" off water. I have a 180g with two AI 26 HD on each side with an AI 32 HD in the center. I hope to eventually have a thread with a tank build. Been busy.

1. How high are your lights mounted above your aquarium?

15-16"

2. What lights are you running over your reef and how deep is your tank?

(5) Orphek Atlantiks and (4) OR3 bars

3. Do you think there are advantages to mounting your lights higher and if so why do you think that?

Not necessarily. PAR determines that factor

4. Would you want to mount your lights higher if you could?

No. They are high enough and allows me access to the tank which is eurobraced

1. How high are your lights mounted above your aquarium?

8.5 inches - standard Radion tank mounts

2. What lights are you running over your reef and how deep is your tank?

Two older Radion XRa30s
Tank is 18 inches deep (75 gallon)

3. Do you think there are advantages to mounting your lights higher and if so why do you think that?

Higher mounting would even out lighting, but would require higher output lights. If I remember the physics, light decreases as a square of the distance.

4. Would you want to mount your lights higher if you could? Nope.

I've got my Orphek Atlantik mounted about 14" above the water which is just about where they recommend. With 3 of them over my 300DD (27" high) is does a terrific job of covering everything despite the huge braces (2) in the middle. Would not need to mount them any higher as they seem to be pretty much optimized right now. It was hard enough getting them this high because of the way my canopy is constructed.

My lights are 10" above my water. I (3) 165 watt black boxes (60" long).
I don't know if there would be an advantage unless it is best for your tank.
I would mount mine higher if it was required to get the par I need.
Right now I am guessing how high to have my lights. My tank is 26" tall.
I can't use the the light spilling over the edges of my tank test due to I have a canopy and I don't have access to a par meter.

1. My lights are mounted 13 " above the water. Hanging from the ceiling.
2. I have 2 Hydra 52 hd's and a 60" aquatic life hybrid, T5 - 4 bulb fixture. My tank is 22 "s deep.
3. The only advantage for me of mounting higher would be more ease to access into the tank.
4. Light spill is the only thing keeping me from raising the lights higher.

Roughly 5' on this system:

Due to the height of the ceiling above the tank custom lights had to be built and recessed into the underside of the balcony overlooking the system. PAR at the surface is around 500.

Thread resurrection....

My leds on my 90g are mounted inside my canopy 3" off the water, lenses removed, 100% both channels. Perfect spread imo
