Any ideas??

One of my MH lamps will cut off every once in a while for no reason. It's ran on a reefkeeper2 and is set to turn off if the tank hits 82.5, but this is not why it's turning off.

plug it into a new socket w/ a different timer (not on the reefkeeper). this will make sure its not the reefkeeper turning it off.

if it keeps turning off after you do this, may be something wrong with the ballast or bulb...

basically just systematically eliminate the possibilities 1 by 1.

it could be the lamp, if the arc tube gets damaged or overdriven with the wrong ballast could cause the lamp to fail,HTH

Rev what fixture/lighting brand do you have?

I had the same thing happen and i had to change the fuses in my ballast every week until one day it just stayed on and I haven't changed the fuse since.

My was a current outer orbit pro.

If you have an extra bulb, try it first. It is either you bulb or ballast causing this. Do you have two bulb/ballasts running? If so, try running the problem bulb on the opposite ballast. That should tell you if it is bulb or ballast right away.
Also, if this is a retro make sure all of your wire connections are good.
