I am getting a 90 gallon tank 48" long, 28" high/deep, and 15 wide, with canopy. The back of the tank is black.
I have heard and am going to assume it is true that LEDs are too direct to cover completely the volume below. I suppose wider (80 degree) optics may better address this issue, but I also think T5s may better cover the gaps without raising the temperature as much as MH.
I am thinking I can run 2-4 T5 lamps in the center and one row each of the LEDs on the front and back angled so that the light is not on the glass but better concentrated on the center of the tank.
What do I need to do to penetrate the 28"? How far apart should the 3 watt LEDs be set? How high above the tank (these have to be set as high as the T5) I think. That is unless there is another design possibility I am not considering.
I want this to be a mixed reef tank.
